Lifeless in Dead Vlei
A long since dead tree in the white clay pan of Deadvlei, located near Sossusvlei, Namibia.

This shot, another from last summer’s trip to Africa, shows off the amazing perspective altering capabilities from Canon’s TS-E 17mm Tilt-Shift lens. This is a splendid example where a close object, only 12 feet high, can be made to appear far more prominent and majestic within the frame. Ordinarily I am using this lens to correct verticals within the frame, but this sort of scene can be bent to the lens’s will.

Enjoy.
