This is Southend’s Pier, the longest in the UK I believe. So, a tip for you all. When you see the pier, don’t just park up intending to walk quickly to it. It’s frakking miles away still!

Again, captured with Nokia 808 PureView – I do have to give it back shortly, so I’m getting some use from it!

EDIT: You’re a great audience, so here’s some more from this morning’s walk.

Nokia UK ‏@nokia_uk: Today’s ‘photo of the day’ award goes to @ChefDude, with his desolate image of Leigh-on-Sea http://nokia.ly/QDcAlU #NokiaShots

Thanks Nokia :)

PS, not sure why they referenced my old Twitter account. If you’re interested, I am @RealMichaelToye now.

No more boats after this, I promise!

Here’s a monochrome version of today’s Daily Awesome Photo. I will tackle any portion of the image I think requires its own conversion to B&W, so this means masking and the use of each colour channel to bring out the best in each aspect. Telling you how to do this is sometimes a waste when an example can do the work and you can see the change with each new layer.

Here’s a link to my Photoshop CS5 PSD file, shrunk to a manageable 700 pixels ;-) Do let me know if you have trouble with it.

Feedback always welcome.

I’m really sorry, but there’s only a solitary flowering plant in my garden. I know you’ve seen it already, but here’s a butterfly!

This is taken with a Canon 5D Mark II and 100-400L. Thankfully it does, and rightly so, trounce the Nokia!

Both captured on Nokia 808 ‘Pureview’.

I am impressed.

Nokia UK is sending me one of their 808 ‘Pureview’ handsets to capture images of the festival.

I’ll definitely be there all day Saturday, so if you see a chinese guy shooting with a Nokia but with a large camera bag who obviously knows nothing about Indie music, then that’s probably me :D

My Dad took this shot of me last weekend. I’d say it’s accurate. BTW, that’s not my monopole, it’s part of the building ;-)

Tank!

Processing images of metal to look rugged and machine like isn’t as easy as others make it look. Also a green tinted ‘wash’ helps sell the military look.
